One day a book on awesomely misleading comic book covers and the crushed dreams they caused once the readers opened the actual comic should be put to print. That was the real corruption of the innocent.
Admittedly, this artwork is sorta shoddy, but in an endearing way, and its sheer kitsch and sentimental attachment (ah, gojira) more than makes up for it.
Hats off to Gil Elvgren for not only trying to attempt to explain this pose ( a gale, I gather) but also throwing in a fun little dog to the usual pin-up pose. Now that's craftsmanship.
[Enlarge Here] How often do we feel like joey, when we watch two people like the above debate in politics, art, or other? More than we would care to admit, I would imagine.
A story spotlighted here not only because it was never officially published--was supposed to be for Plop!, dc humor mag-- but also for the unusual team up of steve ditko and wally wood (and not for the plot which is fair but not exceptional). This may be their only collaboration to my knowledge, and one of the few times wood's inks did not overwhelm another persons pencils. It is an unusual but intriguing melding of talents.
